There's more to Koh Samui than just it's beautiful beaches ... some like the array of international restaurants that have popped up recently, especially at Fisherman's Wharf and along Chaweng Beach. Others love the detox spas that are helping Samui to become the "healthy island". The day trips to nearby Koh Tao or Ang Thong National Marine Park are always a great day out, with superb snorkelling and entertaining boat rides. For the culture vultures, a visit to the enormous Big Buddha statue is recommended.
But one of my favourite things to do on the island is visit the Santiburi Golf Course. Not only is this challenging course one of the most beautiful I've seen, but for the non-golfers out there, lunch or afternoon drinks at the club house is a sheer delight. The views from almost every hole (including the 19th) are superb.
Chaweng Markets prove a fabulous way to spend both time and money and if you are on the island for longer than 24 hours, then you have ample time for a tailor to whip up a lovely new garment, made especially for you.
