Songkran Festival in Darling Harbour

On Sunday 9 April, we held the Thailand Grand Festival in Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour.  It was a stunning day for the thousands of visitors who joined in the festivities.  Numerous Thai restaurants were offering the best of Thai cuisine, including ice cream in delicious Thai flavours, such as mangosteen and red bean.

Nine Buddhist monks opened the festival with a traditional Songkran blessing and an area was set up for visitors to give alms following the ceremony.  The graceful Thai dancers from Siam Classic Dance Studio performed throughout the day, a stark contrast to the displays of Thai Kickboxing and fruit and vegetable carving also performed.  Later in the day, a competition for the Best Thai Dress was held.

One of the most popular marquees was the Tourism Authority of Thailand tent, with a competition to win a trip for two to Thailand, thanks to Trailfinders and The Imaginative Traveller.  The winner for the competition will be announced next week.  Two hospitals, Bangkok Phuket Hospital and Bangkok Pattaya Hospital were also giving out information about their services.

Overall, it was a wonderful day!
