Southern Thailand

The southern region of Thailand is perhaps the most well-known area of Thailand, with beautiful beaches, crystal clear aqua waters and striking limestone formations rising dramatically from the sea.

Australia’s longtime favourite holiday spot, Phuket, continues to offer fantastic value and something for everyone, with new resorts being opened on a regular basis to cope with demand.  Elephant riding, fantastic shopping, great restaurants, sea canoeing as well as all other types of watersports keep the whole family happy, whilst white, sandy beaches, luxurious spas and secluded resorts offer couples intimacy and romance.

For those looking for a lesser resort-focused experience, Krabi is a wonderful destination.  Krabi is located in the famous Phang-Nga National Marine Park, which has frequently featured as the backdrop in hit movies, such as the recently released Bridget Jones Diary 2, as well as The Beach, The Phantom and the James Bond film, Man with a Golden Gun.  Travellers will find a low key, friendly welcome from the area, which mainly offers Thai run hotels and guest houses, rather than international chains.

Newer areas on the tourist circuit are Khao Lak and Trang.  Khao Lak is everyone’s dream vacation: azure blue waters, white powdery beaches, beautiful resorts and few tourist traps.  Trang is even localized, with only one 5-star hotel in the area, ensuring a truly Thai experience.

On the other side of the mainland peninsula is Koh Samui, offering yet a different experience for visitors.  Nestled into the Ang Thong National Marine Park, Samui is the most European of all the Thai holiday spots, with the main beach of Chaweng lined with small boutique resorts, backed by local markets.  Further around the island are more delightful resorts, many set on hills to maximize uninterrupted sea views from restaurants, private balconies and rooms.  Budget style accommodation such as bungalows and guest houses are available and continue to house the participants of the famous Full Moon Parties, held each month on Koh Phang-Ngan.

These are just the tip of the iceberg of picturesque, culturally-diverse places to visit in the South of Thailand.

Come and share the secrets of Thailand.
